The second photograph I have added to this blog is a picture I took with my camera phone of a portion of my Tech N9ne collection with the message "support your artist".
The last image i created was a meme featuring the bar code cross and I used the words to bring attention to a possible subliminal message.

The first image that I have included in this blog is the cover of the documentary T9X: The Tech N9ne Experience which was released in 2004. The picture shows Tech leaning over a surface with a very stern look on his face and his hair spiked up and dyed orange. Due to Tech’s posture and appearance it is easy to assume that the photographer was going for an approach of using pathos by making the rapper look very scary and unusual. If you saw someone dressed up like that walking down the road you are very likely to stare at them while at the same time maintaining a safe distance away. You can also clearly see that Aaron is still wearing his gold wedding band at this time which gives the impression that even though he looks very crazy and unfamiliar he is still a family man with people that love him. Part of his face is in shadow and this gives the effect that he is facing a source of power that is currently bearing down upon him.
In the background of the portrait there is a red fire like texture that makes the subject of the photo appear like he is located in hell with the flames of the underworld circling around him. There is also writing located within the fire that reads “T9X” which not also is the name of the video that the cover was taken for, but also a song that deals exclusively with the rapper’s drug abuse and his desire to achieve more drug induced states. This abbreviation also is very provocative in the sense that there is a certain inclination that it is holding some unknown power behind it just based on the letters. It is started with a “T’ which is a strong consonant that is used to start many names of powerful predators such as the T-Rex. The middle of it contains the number “9” which is the number of completion, in the sense that is the last single number in the human language and all the other numbers are just a combination nine and the numbers before it. The letter “X” is the most provocative part of the name because of the previous uses of the letter such as pornographic films being labeled as triple x.
The second image that I have uploaded for this project is the cover of the album Anghellic. It shows the rapper flailing around his braided hair in a wild manner and also he appears to be shouting at the top of his lungs. On his forehead in black paint you can see the number nine has been inscribed on his head which as I discussed earlier is the number of completion and the last part of Tech’s name. If you look at N9ne’s eyes you can see very strong emotions which appear to be aggression, anger and hatred. This was an appropriate tone for the album because it sustains the message from the cd that Tech is unhappy with the way things are going in his life. The whole purpose of this release was to help him escape from what he felt was hell and relocate to another place where he is more happy and satisfied.
Most of the background of the cover image is blurred out to make only the torso of the jumping Teccan Nina the main subject of the shot and also the words located above his head. In bold gothic font the word Anghellic it is the largest part of the image which is spelled differently from the actual word angelic, which by definition means to belong to angels or to be like or befitting of an angel especially through displaying virtue and beauty. By changing the spelling of the title it turned it into a paradox. How could there be hell in something that is as holy and divine as an angel? This further reinforces the concept of the work which by the track listing has the listener begin in a dark mood and tone and progress on to the more light hearted sounding songs. In the bottom of the left hand corner there is also a parental advisory sticker to warn the parents of younger kids that there is explicit content in all of the songs.
Going on to the third of my chosen photographs you can see a much more casual picture of two men known as Tech N9ne and Lil Wayne. Their demeanor appears to be very laid back and relaxed which I believe to be caused in part by the overly large sized cigar that Wayne has in his hand which is very likely to be the cause of their bloodshot and slanted eyes. Wayne’s arm is around Tech’s shoulder giving the viewer the impression that the two of them have formed some kind of a brotherhood.
The hand signal that is being used by Mr. Tech is the one that is commonly seen in the rock scene where all of his fingers are down except for his index and pinky. In this picture to someone who did not know the identity of the two individuals it appears that the King of Darkness is the less unusual of the two rappers because he is dressed in a plain button up shirt and his counterpart is wearing more extravagant attire and expensive jewelry. The scenery of the shot can only be seen in the top left corner, but there is a stack of speakers that can clearly be seen probably meaning that this picture was taken while the two men were working together in a recording studio.
The fourth still shot I have collected for the purpose of this assignment is much like the first image of this paper. Aaron Yates better known as the rapper Tech N9ne is posed with both his hands placed on two parallel rent-a-trucks parked on each side of him. The expression on his face is very intimidating with the lines around his eyes clearly visible and his mouth wide in a way that makes one assume he is screaming very loudly. On his face there is white tribal paint which has been drawn around the border of his face giving him stripes on his cheeks and enclosing a jagged cross going along the bridge of his nose with lines extending from it giving it the effect of a forward movement. A tattoo can be seen on his right arm but the text cannot be fully read or understood but because of my previous knowledge I know that it says “liberate” and corresponds with his other arm that says “me”. His attire is not like the other pictures included in this blog because this time a chain can be seen displayed over his white t shirt and a bracelet and watch are around both of his wrists.
The combination of the face paint and the unkempt beard on his chin gives his image a very unapproachable feel and if you happened to walk between town large vehicles and saw a random person looking this way any one in their right mind would choose to walk around the other side. This picture is the most frightening and disturbing one that I have ever found of the artist.
The final picture included in this collection is one that is very likely to get criticism from Christian critics because it shows Tech N9ne as he appeared on the cover of his movie T9X with his spiked red hair looking like he belongs at a rock concert in the mosh pit, with the spiny cross painting in the middle of his face, “T” and “X” are located on each cheek, and he is dressed in robes like a Catholic preacher would be wearing that has crosses on the sash around his neck.
This photograph is the first I have seen in this exercise that has implemented the use of ethos in such a strong and outright manner because by dressing in this way he is implying that he possess a close relationship to God and knows the ways of the holy savior. His hands are out stretched in a welcoming motion that would be used to urge someone to come closer to receive a blessing of some kind. The expression on his face is not a particularly emotional one but in his eyes there is the intensity that can be seen when a person becomes concerned and has a willing to help some way if possible.
